Problem description
Consulting and adequate application of the complicated new quality control techniques for the concrete used in Spanish projects (Building and Civil Engineering).
Challenges and goals
The main challenges of the project were the correct interpretation and mathematical formulation of the criteria of the new established standards, and the final goal was the final implementation of all these complicated rules in a complete software that can accomplish all the process.
Mathematical and computational methods
The main mathematical techniques employed consist of the adequate statistical techniques for the quality control of the concrete, but also some necessary extrapolation techniques when the first results of the test tubes from the bulk batches are initially non-compliant, requiring subsequent re-measurements and re-adjustment of all calculations.
Results and Benefits
The IECA Association is a Spanish institution for scientific and technical research in the field of cement and its applications. One of its main goals is the advice and technical assistance to cement users as well as promoting the development and application of correct quality standards in the manufacture and application of cement and concrete in all projects and constructions carried out in Spain.
So, for these mandatory quality controls, a comprehensive software program that correctly performs all the calculations is invaluable.
